Signposting Birmingham to London

Grand Union Canal signpost at Braunston Junction

I’m slowly emerging out of the gunk and gloom of the last few weeks, and doing some serious research into the proposed route. The signpost above, at Braunston Junction, one of our changeover spots, brings it all home – this is really going to happen, it’s so exciting!

It was such a sunny day, and such a peaceful place that I stopped to record the birdsong (which I think is a Dunnock?) and a passing narrow boat. Pop your headphones on for the full experience:

Stoke Buerne, pictured below, is another changeover location – a lovely spot on a sunny day, home to the British Waterways Museum, an Indian Restaurant, two pubs and a canalside shop.

In the meantime, we’re really happy to welcome two more runners to our ranks – Rebecca and Wendy, physios from Queen Elizabeth Hospital. This means we’re reaching our full complement, but we’ll now be looking for volunteers to cycle some of the route, and support along the way.

Don’t forget to donate on our Just Giving site.

About Alun

Alun ran his first marathon, Stockholm, in 2005, and raised over £2,000 for the Burns Unit at Selly Oak Hospital, where his partner Faith, was treated in 2003. He loved the experience so much that he’s run seven marathons now, and will be attempting to break three hours at VLM in 2011, while raising money for the Burns Unit again.
